Mike White

Mike is a landscape and astro-photographer from Rolleston.

Formerly an airline pilot, Mike has always enjoyed New Zealand’s stunning scenery. Now, he loves exploring New Zealand’s night skies and natural landscapes with his camera and can often be found somewhere near Banks Peninsula chasing the elusive Southern Lights and enjoying the clarity of the dark skies above.

Mike feels that photography is a positive way to engage with the natural world around us and finds it incredibly satisfying when all the elements come together to create a stunning photograph.

He finds the challenge of capturing a beautiful image of a fleeting moment to be its own reward and is inspired by the timeless work of photographers Andris Apse Photographer and Craig Potton.

Mike’s goal as a photographer is to share images that closely reflect the scene as it was at the time it was captured while also serving to capture something of the feeling of the experience. He hopes that his astrophotography, in particular, “conveys something of the sense of awe that I feel when I’m out under the stars.”
